Lance's Testimony
I never thought or planned on becoming a Christian, if anything I was a most unlikely candidate. I was a typical rebellious teenager, void of Godliness and caught up in, what I thought was 'cool' at the time. With a regular diet of TV, Hollywood movies, chart music and computer games, my mind was fully plugged into the media system. In my late teens I was heavily into rock music and was a part of the growing Grunge scene. Jesus Christ was the last thing on my mind. I was also living in sin with my girlfriend at the time. It was the sin that ultimately made me realise that I needed help. I got mixed up with the Jehovah's Witnesses for a year, but I never heard the Gospel message once. My girlfriend got worried about me 'getting too involved' and arranged a meeting with a Christian friend of hers. This friend, from the Reachout Trust, showed me videos and books about why the JW organisation is a cult. I stopped my so called 'Bible studies' with them soon after. I was left a Gospel booklet from this friend, which took me through the whole gospel message. That night, as I read the booklet in bed, I felt compelled to ask God for forgiveness for my vile life and to surrender it to His way, which is through the saving work of His son, Jesus Christ.
'For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ..' (Rom 6:23).
That night I believe I became a Christian! I felt the need to read the whole Bible for myself. The accounts of Jesus really caught my interest and I could not stop reading. I really wanted to learn more and more. In my ignorance I got mixed up with a modern Charismatic church, which I later regretted due to the strange spiritualistic phenomenon and hype involved. I was motivated to study sound reformed doctrine and did so until I was satisfied on most doctrines, letting the Bible and the Spirit be my teachers.
'For the Son of man is come to save that which was lost' (Mt 18:11)
I hope my life can contribute in some way to the mission of saving the lost, whether they be lost in sin or some unbiblical organisation. In my Christian walk I still experience temptations and trials, but I am confident that through Christ I will have the victory and will be able to enter His kingdom for ever and ever. All this being made possible though His saving sacrifice on the cross that paid for my sins. Do you feel the burden of sin that I did? Then flee to Jesus and ask for forgiveness.
